What are your dreams and hopes for the future?

There is a big difference between a dream and a goal....

A dream is something you imagine happening.....

Often, when students discuss vision, they list their dreams, not their goals.

In contrast, you take actionable steps to achieve your goals.

The following activity will help you differentiate between a goal and a dream, but first, go wild with your ideas.

You have 3 minutes to think and record as many hopes and dreams about your future as you can.

Categorize the points on your list to separate them. Use the 3 categories below:

  • Complete Fantasy - Add 'F' next to everything on your list you would like to achieve but have never discussed before. These are only in your head.

  • Conversations and Reflections about Dreams - Add 'C' next to everything on your list you have discussed with another person. You have talked about these things and researched them further.

  • Goals - Add 'G' next to everything on your list you have acted upon, perhaps you have joined a sports team or applied for a specific course. These show the actions you have taken towards your dreams.

  • Everyone has dreams they do not act upon.

  • This is fine, just as long as you are not frustrated or unhappy for not pursuing these dreams.

  • If you want to realize your dreams, you must turn them into a goal or they will remain a dream forever.

  • It is important to consider: Which dream would you most like to realize?

  • Reflect on the above today considering what goals need to be set to achieve this!
