1% Planning

Our updated slide decks offer you two options:

  1. Opt for the concise version of the deck, which presents the essential key takeaways without any included activities. (10-20mins)

  2. Alternatively, choose the comprehensive version, which provides additional context, incorporates session-specific activities, timers, and more. (30-50mins)

SYSTEMS

In her book, entrepreneur, coach and writer Allyson Lewis talks about how the smallest of changes in our habits and actions, can have a huge difference in our productivity and success

This activity is taken from the ideas in a book called the "Seven Minute Difference"

Lewis suggests that spending just 1% of our time planning, each day,we can make huge improvements to our productivity

Inspired by her approach, we’ve developed our own seven-minute system with a focus on planning study.

1 day =

1440 minutes

Here's how it works....

A single flash card works well for this

1.Every morning set aside 7 quiet minutes

This might seem ridiculously obvious but it's harder than it looks!!!

Once you’re ready to go, scribble notes under our suggested headings. You've got three things to consider

A Single Flash Card works well for this

What one thing needs completing today?

Select one thing that you want or need to finish and cross off today, no negotiation. This is your must-do.

What one thing needs further work today?

Choose one thing you need to continue work on today – something you’ve already started but needs attention.

Select one thing you haven’t even begun yet, but you need to get going on today.

What one thing needs starting today?

Throw down everything else that’s on your mind here.
Include things from inside and outside school

Any left overs?

Use the back of the flash card for this

..Then set aside 7 minutes every evening!

Again – harder than it looks!!

we suggest using these five  questions for reflection:

  • How did your day go? Did you get your three things done? What’s left over?

  • What’s tomorrow looking like as a result?

  • What’s on your longer-range radar?

  • In your studies, what do you need to do more of?

  • In your studies, what do you need to do less of?

Tomorrow gets a new flash card a fresh start

...and that's it - your day is finished!

FINAL THOUGHTS

  • If this system ever feels difficult or time-consuming remember; it actually isn’t that bad.

  • You still get 99% of your time to spend getting on with your day.

  • And just because the 1% is a tiny time period, it doesn’t mean it isn’t effective.

  • Just these two small pockets of quiet thinking and planning could make a massive difference to your sense of calm, your levels of stress, and your feelings of control.

  • That’s the power of 1% planning!
